Primary Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing, testing, and validating
new packaging components for the company's
products, including the preparation of formal
specifications and bills of materials
- Develop and maintain an ongoing program to correct
packaging problems through observations of
retained samples, returned goods, field
reports, and production problems
- Suggest and implement improvements of existing
packaging
- Develop pallet stacking patterns, case cubes and
handling requirements, based on customer and
distribution requirements
- Develop and implement new testing methods and Standard
Operating Procedures (SOP's) for specific
packaging components
- Interface with all domestic and international elements
of the company to maintain global consistency
of packaging and trade dress
- Interface with Manufacturing and Engineering to
determine packaging equipment requirements for
production lines, to include supervision of
test runs and timely support
- Interface with Quality Assurance to advise them of all
packaging changes and new packaging
componentry, and to insure they have the latest
packaging from concept through launch
- Interface with venders, Marketing, Purchasing, and
Manufacturing to develop preliminary drawings
and prototypes for the development of new
packaging from concept through launch
- Maintain an effective, ongoing value analysis program
to either reduce the cost of componentry or
improve the value such componentry adds to the
company's products
- Maintain awareness of any domestic or international
regulatory issues effecting the company's
packaging program, and interface with Legal
and/or Regulatory to insure proper compliance
- Responsible for insuring that the Bill of Materials
are kept current and accurate in the Prism
Materials Resource Planning system
- Responsible for directly supervising employees in the
Packaging Section - including, interviewing,
hiring, and training employees, planning and
directing work and appraising performance
Credentials / Knowledge / Skills Preferred
- B.S degree in Packaging Materials Science or IOPP
certification combined with applicable
technical degree
- Five to seven years experience in packaging design and
specification required
- Experience in developing instructions and standard
operating procedures
- Strong language skills, mathematical skills, and
reasoning ability
- Knowledge of computer based applications required
