Primary Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Develop competitor profiles on the company's top 15
competitors, collecting the following
information:
- Financial Information - including revenue trends,
revenue per rep, gross profit and payout to
reps, net income, sources of revenue and assets
under management
- Market Share Information - increases/decreases in
total market share, market share with Level 1
product sponsors and market share in terms of
number of reps
- Industry Issues - how competitor firms respond to the
industry and regulatory trend/issues
- Product and Service Development - what products and
services are being planned and strategies for
proving services
- Management Information - develop profiles of each
competitor's management team
- Company History - to be able to piece together company
activities such as acquisitions, name changes,
etc.
- Systems and Technology - both home office processing
and rep systems
- Marketing Strategy - understand marketing systems,
advertising, and roll out of new programs
- Recruiting Initiatives - target reps and typical top
producers
- Strengths/Weaknesses - satisfaction of reps
Reporting Systems - home office and to reps
- Strategic Plan - what are the future plans of each
competitor company
- Rep Training Programs - types, technology, training
elements
- Review relevant publications and available database
sources for competitor information
- Interview/Survey competitors on a regular basis
- Develop Media and Trade ources
- Attend industry trade organization meetings
- Debrief new reps and emleyees coming from competitor
firms
- Develop systematic program for gathering info from the
company's internal staff and reps about
competition
- Follow general industry trends/developments outside
the US
- Follow general economic trends (the dollar, GNP, Fed
policies, etc.)
- Attend Senior Management meetings as requested
- Perform special research projects as directed by
Senior Management
- Coordinate company efforts to save rep/U4 applicants
who may be potential U5's
- Collect and analyze reasons for leaving
Credentials / Knowledge / Skills Preferred
- BA/BS degree in marketing, information services or
library science
- Experience in competitive or market analysis
- Ability to create profiles and other appropriate
documentation of information gathered
- Excellent communication and interviewing skills
