Primary Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Maximize impact of scientific process on Technology
organization
- Technical correctness - appropriateness of approach and
validity of results
- Clear expectations exist between management, scientist,
and client
- Agreement reached on objectives and goals
- Appropriate balance of quality & quantity
- Proper liaison with client -- includes pre- and post-consult
- Schedule and costs clearly defined: client agrees to these
- Schedule and costs controlled within agreed to limits without
sacrificing quality
- Timely and accurate reporting to client and manager
- Enhances visibility of scientists and their findings
- Balancing workload - staff capacity fully used without
excessive ongoing overtime or overwork
- Utilizing individual strengths to fullest extent
- Responsibility/accountability driven to lowest level possible
- To extent possible, individual assignments include
developmental attributes
- Personnel/career development planning for each staff member
- Assure that personnel skills are commensurate with
Section's mission/strategy/goals
- Clear expectations communicated with each subordinate
- Direct development program (within Section's mission) to
advance overall capability of the Analytical
Support Section
- Develop solid network of peers and to extent possible with
Section and Group Managers and Directors
- Take ownership for own career development plan
Credentials / Knowledge / Skills Preferred
- Should be technically diverse and experienced scientist
who effectively blends technical skills with management
skills to head Technology Support Section
- Identify and understand issues
- Align activities with organizational objectives
- Provide scientific leadership
- Manage all resources to successful completion of goals
- Should possess PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry with at
least three years of industry experience, including at
least one year in managing analytical chemistry
professional and technical personnel
- Or, MS degree in chemistry with at least eight years
of industry experience
- Current knowledge of a broad range of scientific literature
- Able to lead scientific programs into new directions
consistent with organizational goals
- Recognized as scientific expert in at least one field of
scientific endeavor and should have published one or
more scientif-ic manuscripts in a peer-reviewed journal
- Should be an expert in all modern scientific practices in
analytical chemistry
